Sample Collection: Perform venipuncture, capillary puncture, or other appropriate techniques to collect blood, urine, or other specimens from patients following established protocols and safety procedures.
Patient Interaction: Interact with patients to explain sample collection procedures, address any concerns or questions they may have, and ensure their comfort and cooperation during the process.
Labeling and Documentation: Accurately label collected samples with patient information and other required identifiers, and complete relevant documentation, such as requisition forms and specimen tracking logs, to ensure traceability and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Specimen Processing: Properly handle and process collected samples, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and preservation, as necessary to prepare them for analysis by laboratory technicians or technologists.
Quality Control: Perform quality control checks on collected samples to ensure integrity, proper handling, and adherence to quality standards, and take corrective actions as needed to address any deviations or discrepancies.
Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain inventory levels of sample collection supplies, such as collection tubes, needles, and disinfectants, and coordinate ordering and restocking activities as required to ensure uninterrupted sample collection operations.
Safety and Infection Control: Adhere to safety protocols and infection control measures to minimize the risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and ensure the safety of both patients and staff during sample collection procedures.
Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and calibration of sample collection equipment, such as blood collection devices and centrifuges, to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Data Entry and Reporting: Enter sample collection data accurately into laboratory information systems (LIS) or electronic medical records (EMR) and generate reports as needed to facilitate sample tracking, result reporting, and billing processes.
Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with laboratory staff, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate sample collection activities, communicate any issues or concerns related to sample quality or patient care, and ensure timely delivery of test results.
Training and Education: Participate in training sessions and continuing education programs to stay updated on best practices, new technologies, and regulatory requirements relevant to sample collection and laboratory medicine.
Compliance and Quality Assurance: Comply with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and institutional policies related to sample collection, data privacy, and quality assurance, and participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of sample collection processes.
